We shoot a fair number of races every year (even if we only blog one or two) for local running companies. I was actively running (like 50+ miles a week) when I started my photographic career and Austin runners were my first customers and advocates. That relationship continues to this day. Run Labs is a part of that group of Austin running organizations and it is always a pleasure to shoot a race for them. Zilker relay race photography was a chance to connect with a lot of old friends while making photos.
Staff Head Shots
An all hands event like the Zilker Relays can be an opportunity to get head shots as long as they happen quickly. We kicked off the Zilker Relay race day with quick head shots of their staff and relay team.
The folks that started Run Lab also started Empower Coffee, a coffee shop staffed by special needs individuals. The staff started by Kayleigh has it’s own relay team and we had the privilege of photographing them before and during the race. Run Labs stuff and team were there all day encouraging and running along side Kayleigh’s club as they completed the 10 mile relay race.
Zilker Relay Race Photography
Of course, we were also there to photograph the actual race. We aren’t like a lot of other race companies with automated camera traps. Our goal is to get more than just a toll-road style photo of your race number. We work to create photos that are unique for each runner we photograph.
Some people run races casually. The group in the front here is not so casual. Speed is their mission.
The race kicks off in the evening and continues through sunset for most runners.
It’s hard to beat a good Texas sunset.
